Celebrating World Egg Day and British Egg Week
Next week, looks set to be egg-tastic with World Egg Day taking place on Friday 8 October and British Egg Week running from October 6th through to the 12th.
Both events are a celebration of the humble egg, its multitude of benefits and how they can make a positive impact on all of our lives.
To celebrate the event we will be posting lots of egg related facts to highlight the versatility and many benefits of consuming eggs.
We shall also be running a little competition, asking our followers to share with us their best egg recipes, the winner of which will receive a bottle of gin to make our favourite recipe - a gin fizz. This bubbly, lemony drink gets a velvety texture and foamy head from the addition of an egg white!
We can’t wait to hear your recipes, whether it be a deluxe scrambled egg, or a parmesan and broccoli quiche, we look forward to reading your submissions.
To enter simply comment on our competition post on Facebook or Instagram, detailing your recipes, ideally with a picture using the Hashtag #WorldEggDay and/or #BritishEggWeek.
British Egg Week
Comedian George Egg is the face of this year’s British Egg Week, and he will be be sharing recipes with his 55,000 Instagram followers during the week. This year British Lion Eggs are partnering up with the Love Food Hate Waste campaign which aims to reduce food wastage and as eggs can be added to so many left over ingredients, it’s a match made in heaven!
World Egg Day
World Egg Day was established at Vienna 1996, when it was decided to celebrate the power of the egg on the second Friday in October each year. Since then, fans around the world have thought up new creative ways to honour eggs!
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event and we can’t wait to see what egg related activities our colleagues and customers get up to, to celebrate this incredible nutrient powerhouse! The egg is one of the most nutrient-dense natural food sources on the planet, improving brain function, supporting physical strength, aiding child growth.
Along with its many nutritional benefits, the egg is the most environmentally sustainable and affordable animal-source protein available, helping support families around the world as well as the planet itself.
