Martin Humphrey stars on Channel 4's Food Unwrapped series
What really goes into the food we eat?
An important question that Channel 4’s ‘Food Unwrapped’ series sets out to answer by looking at how food around the world is produced.
In this week’s episode, our very own Martin Humphrey revealed the truth as to why some eggs are larger than others and how to influence egg size.
Representing the National Poultry Board, Martin talked to presenter Amanda Byram and Kelly Stoner of Mac’s Farm in Ditchling, East Sussex - about the impact of age and dietary requirements on producing larger size eggs as well as the importance of hen health and welfare.
Key aspects covered in the programme were:
Debunking the myth that bigger hens lay bigger eggs
How fine tuning poultry diets can alter egg size
The balance between producing larger eggs and ensuring the welfare of hens
For more information on how feed and environmental conditions can be adjusted with the birds age to control egg size, while supporting bird welfare and shell quality, download our ebook on ‘How to manage egg size’.
