We are delighted that Alison Colville-Hyde has joined Humphrey Feeds & Pullets as our Poultry Specialist for the mid-South West.
Alison has spent much of her career working in poultry, and during that time has built up an extensive knowledge base across a broad range of areas from bird welfare, vaccinations, red-mite and disease control, to field management and optimising productivity.
“I am really thrilled to have joined Humphrey Feeds & Pullets as a Poultry Specialist as it combines the two elements of my career that I am most passionate about. Helping producers on farm improve productivity, by sharing the technical and practical knowledge of poultry that I have picked up over the years.”
Alison joins us from St David’s Poultry Team, where she spent 10 years as a Technical Field Advisor. Prior to that Alison was an Area Field Manager with Lloyd Maunder where she managed organic broiler production across 45 sites in the West Country.
“I have always really enjoyed being out in the field, working in partnership with producers, and problem solving,” continues Alison. “My new role really does take everything I have learned to date into one job!”
From an early age growing up on her parents’ farm in Crediton, Devon, Alison knew that she wanted to do something with animals, particularly large ones! The eldest of three girls she enjoyed milking the family dairy herd and looking after her own small flock of hens and ewes, selling the eggs in the village. “I really wanted to work in agriculture but working at home wasn’t an option at the time, so initially becoming a Veterinary Nurse seemed like a sensible compromise.”
After leaving school, Alison entered Bicton College of Agriculture where she qualified as a Veterinary Nurse before joining a mixed practice in Devon. However, she quickly realised that being ‘out and about’ was her natural habitat and it was from here that she decided to change course and embark on a career in animal health.
“Alison has already brought bags of enthusiasm and knowledge to our field team and we are delighted that she has joined us,” states Martin Humphrey, Sales Director of Humphrey Feeds & Pullets. “Her experience of different production systems and disease control is outstanding, two particularly hot issues for our industry, and I know her energy and ‘can-do’ attitude will be of real benefit to our customers in the West Country.”
Outside of work Alison has a creative streak enjoying up-cycling junk and improving the large garden she has created. When time allows, horse riding, walking and anything involving the countryside, particularly Exmoor, are her pastimes.
