We are delighted to announce that our customers Chris and Alex Watts of A&C Poultry, have been shortlisted as one of three potential winners of the Egg Producer of the Year category in this year’s prestigious National Egg and Poultry Awards.
The National Egg and Poultry Awards are sponsored by the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) and the British Poultry Council (BPC) and set out to recognise high performance, innovation and best practice in the poultry industry.
Supported by our poultry specialist James Wilson, A&C Poultry is owned and run by brothers Alex and Chris Watts. It is made up of two farms, Naunton Farm in Naunton Beauchamp, and Crundlend Farm in Stanford Bridge, Worcestershire and employs 11 staff across the two sites.
Naunton Farm is a new 68-acre commercial free-range laying farm, with three Big Dutchman 264 houses containing 32,000 Lohmann Brown and 16,000 Hyline birds. Now on their second flock it has a centralised egg store with a Prinzen egg packer and robotic stacker.
Crundlend Farm is a 40-acre barn farm that currently houses 72,000 Lohmann Lite and Hy-line Silver Brown birds for vaccine egg production. The birds are housed in three 24,000 capacity Big Dutchman 264 houses.
Despite the lockdown the judging panel, comprising Charles Bourns, Richard Griffiths, Mark Williams, Chloe Ryan, Paul Kelly, and Gary Ford, met via conference call to examine the entries and have arrived at their shortlist.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London in the autumn at a date to be confirmed.
