The new episode of Welly Vision, created by RSPCA Assured, focuses on laying hens and features our feed and pullet customer The Macs Farm.
The online series, starring food journalist, campaigner, and Food Unwrapped presenter Kate Quilton, aims to better educate consumers about farming and where their food comes from, by visiting RSPCA Assured certified farms and interviewing real farmers to highlight higher welfare farming.
In the most recent episode of Welly Vision, Kate visits the Macs Farm, a free-range organic egg holding in East Sussex, to find out what natural behaviour looks like for a hen and how farmers can encourage natural behaviour.
As a RSPCA Assured certified farm, The Macs Farm was chosen to showcase higher welfare egg production in the UK and the difference it makes to the hens.
The 10-minute micro-documentary focuses on laying hens and is aimed at the 64 million or so people in the UK who eat eggs – that’s about 97% of the UK population.
The hen episode covers topics such as different methods of egg production, egg codes, shell and yolk colour, as well as more challenging subjects. Two shorter videos will also be published in the coming weeks honing in on specific areas of egg production.
