Humphrey Feeds and Pullets has been featured in the latest edition of RANGER, in an article titled, “The false economy of lower quality poultry feed.”
The article focuses on the issue of lower quality poultry feed and how it can be a false economy with a negative effect on the efficiency and performance of a flock.
It features our Humphrey Feeds & Pullets poultry specialist James Wilson who states, “Lesser quality raw materials may be available at certain times of the year by non-poultry feed specialists when demand in their own sector drops. These diets tend not to be formulated with the same level of knowledge of nutritional levels nor with the specific needs of poultry in mind.”
The article goes on to compare the commercial laying hen to a high-performance athlete who needs carefully balanced nutrition to achieve production targets and maintain peak performance and how the quality of raw materials and focus of formulations to meet the hen’s changing requirements during their life, are critically important to maintaining her health and productivity.
Other areas covered include:
Egg size and quality
Feed efficiency
Raw material quality and consistency
Formulation and grist quality
The role of additives
